I've been wanting a mirrored jewelry armoire for a long time, and this one had a good price, compared to others out there. However, I can see why it's cheaper from the overall construction. The legs are poor quality and they don't provide a solid base for the structure. I have it on carpet, so that helps a little. The directions suggest you nail it to the wall to help - so that should be a hint. Also, the top lid is very heavy and doesn't stay up when you are getting the jewelry ... it has slammed shut more than once on me.
Final assessment - get this if you are desperate for this type of piece. If not, skip it.LOVE this!! By Jennifer B
Beautiful piece of furniture! It came almost fully constructed, all I had to do was screw on the legs and the lid onto hinges on the top. The only issue I had is the pre-drilled holes to attach the lid were a little bit off, so I had to pound a nail into the correct spot to get the screws to go in straight. Otherwise, it was a piece of cake to put together. It comes with hardware to attach it to the wall to prevent tipping, but I didn't bother with that, as it feels solid and stable even on carpet in my bedroom. Here are some more details...
*Top lid lifts up to reveal 13 long ring slots (probably could fit 4-5 or more rings per "row") plus an open area for loose stuff or items you want to keep in the box. The lid has a mirror on the top and on the inside so you can check yo'self out in your bling. :)
*1st small drawer is a false drawer front to accommodate the space under the lid
*2nd small drawer down is divided into 9 squares for smaller pieces
*3rd small drawer down is divided into 6 rectangles for small-med pieces
*4th small drawer is open with no dividers
*Remaining 4 drawers are large (deep) with no dividers
*Two side doors for necklaces contain 8 double hooks plus a small cord to hold necklaces in place as they are hanging
There is sooooo much space in this armoire! I have a lot of jewelry and I don't think even I can fill this thing up. Time to go shopping so I can live up to my new piece of furniture! :) My one minor complaint is that the velvet fabric on the inside is an absolutely HIDEOUS rust brown colour. Blech! Why they didn't line it with black or grey velvet so it matches the exterior, I will never know. The overall style of this is a distressed silver-painted wood with mirrors covering all the major surfaces. The painted parts are supposed to be somewhat imperfect and it's a good overall look (my wife loved it; an anniversary gift). The mirrors a imperfectly fitted on the smaller surfaces but from a short distance it does not matter; it's dazzling and full of bling! The construction is so-so, but it's not going to be a heavily used piece so that's probably just fine. For the price (I paid about $260) it's hard to find fault. But this was the SECOND one I ordered.
I ordered the first one of these and the item arrived rather damaged even though the box was in good shape. The interior styrofoam was literally crumbling. The back panel of the piece was splitting off and one drawer back was completely detached. One side door was knocked off its hinges and the door scraped the side of the piece. There were a few dents in the wood itself, especially on the very visible top and bottom edges. Miraculously no mirrors were broken. I returned this item and was promptly sent a new one (see above). That one arrived in good shape, though the interior packaging was also rather damaged. Assembly was moderately difficult (total of 12 screws) mainly because of poorly cleaned and aligned screw holes.
I recommend that if you purchase this you do so early to allow for a possible return and re-order.
